Thank you for visiting Shankara Gundogs. We are located in Newmarket, Suffolk, just outside Cambridge.
Why the name Shankara you ask? Well Geeta is a Hindu and we wanted to find a name that means something when we started breeding dogs together. It means “auspicious and lucky” as we believe the puppies we have had are all lucky to find the homes they have.
A Brief History of Rob & Geeta
Rob has been around gundogs since he was 8 years old (he was given his first springer spaniel - Rex)
By this age, he knew his future would involve dogs in all ways in the shooting field. It was an immediate passion.
Being a part time gamekeeper from the age of 12, and a full time gamekeeper from the age of 16, Robs knowledge of gundogs is wide and Is more than experienced. He previously owned Labradors, springer spaniels and cocker spaniels.
Breeding dogs came in when being a gamekeeper and having over 35 years breeding experience, his experience is extensive.
He is known as the Rob the Dog because of his passion for dogs.
He met Geeta nearly 4 years ago. Her experience was purely with cats. She is a n RSPCA and Cats Protection fosterer and her passion for animals was amazing.
She was known as the mad cat lady.
From moving to their home in Newmarket, we decided to build our own purpose built kennels in the back garden. We also have dogs in the house that live with our indoor rescue cats.
Why Shankara Gundogs?
We have recently been awarded 4 Stars for our breeders licence which we are extremely proud of.
Our ethos is to provide the best dogs / puppies we are able to.
You start as a client and you leave as an extended family member.
We are a Council Registered Breeder and between us, we have over 30 years experience in breeding of dogs. We pride and thrive ourselves to provide the best love and care for our dogs. We are a family home with working dogs. Due to having various other experience with other animals for over 15 years, when the licence was issued, this was recognised by the council and we are proud to say we were awarded 4 out of 5* which we are extremely proud of.
We pride ourselves on the dogs we have and give them our all even when we are breeding. We are proud to say we rarely advertise our dogs as we always have waiting lists for future litters.
